The GDI-DE Registry is a National Technical Component of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Germany (GDI-DE). Its use provides binding specifications for the standardised handling of geodata – such as namespaces, code lists and coordinate reference systems. This ensures that geodata can be referenced publicly and permanently.
Data providers can publish their own specialist registers and, in return, receive stable, URL-based identifiers for their data. Geodata users can draw on uniformly defined terms, codes and reference systems. This prevents ambiguities during data exchange.
Versioning within the GDI-DE Registry ensures that every change is traceable. In this way, the tool creates a reliable foundation for interoperable geodata – and thus also for applications based on uniform standards.
