The Airbus Earth observation constellation, which is both multi-sensor and multi-resolution, can provide a tangible, efficient, and scalable solution to current global challenges, particularly in disaster management and urban development At its core is a unique capability to combine optical and radar imaging technologies, leveraging the strengths of each depending on the situation. This smart constellation includes optical sensors such as SPOT, Pléiades, Pléiades Neo, and even HD15, providing coverage from broad national/regional level to very high-resolution imagery, down to the street or building perspective, even offering sometimes a credible alternative to traditional aerial means. It also includes agile Radar capabilities, which are particularly effective for monitoring evolving situations and measuring ground movement with centimetric precision. This diversity in sensor types and resolutions enables the constellation to address a wide variety of use cases: • mapping natural disasters on a regional scale,• detecting and assessing damage to critical infrastructure,• guiding emergency services with precise geolocation support or escape routes.And all of this can be achieved day or night, regardless of cloud cover, thanks to the integration of Radar sensors capable of seeing through adverse weather conditions. A key differentiator lies in the constellation’s operational agility. With a highly responsive tasking service, image acquisition can be scheduled up to just 45 minutes before satellite overpass. This responsiveness ensures reaction quickly in high-stakes situations where timing is critical — whether in the event of floods, wildfires, earthquakes or industrial accidents. Airbus satellites also support mono, stereo, and tri-stereo imaging, enabling the creation of high-value geospatial products such as elevation models and high-quality 3D models. By combining satellite imagery with simulation and modelling tools, these digital twins allow stakeholders to visualise urban growth, identify vulnerabilities, and plan infrastructure that is more resilient and sustainable in the face of climate, economic or demographic shifts.SAR capabilities also brings a huge value for risk management and city planning thanks for instance to Interferometric SAR (InSAR), that could be used to monitor ground deformation with very high precision supporting infrastructure stability analysis and early risk detection. Another major asset is the constellation’s extensive archive, dating back to early 2010, which provides over a decade of consistent data. This long-term historical depth allows for temporal analysis of territories: monitoring land-use changes, understanding urban sprawl, or detecting early signs of degradation. The integration of past, present and future datasets significantly strengthens decision-making, from planning and prevention to recovery and adaptation. To further answer to such complex challenges, Airbus is determined to go further to remain at the forefront of satellite-based geospatial intelligence. New sensors, such as Pléiades Neo Next, are being added to improve resolution, increase revisit rates, and include advanced processing capabilities for the most demanding users.
