About
Digital sovereignty encompasses more than the use of open source software - it describes the ability of institutions and individuals to shape their digital processes independently, self-determinedly and securely. This ability is essential for administrations with central responsibility for the management and provision of geodata. This article looks at digital sovereignty from a technical perspective. The focus is on the question of how IT systems and their specifications can be designed in such a way that they remain maintainable, technologically flexible and interoperable in the long term. At the same time, they should be easy to use and resource-efficient so that they can be operated independently even under limited personnel and financial conditions. There are also challenges on the user side: Basic geodata should be findable without specialist knowledge, understandable and usable in a wide variety of IT environments and tools. The technical design of data provision therefore has a direct impact on the digital sovereignty of administration, business and society. Examples are used to show how current architectures such as the AdV's GeoInfoDok could be improved in order to strengthen digital sovereignty.
